Bali and Thailand are the two most popular long-weekend-turned-dream-trip destinations for travellers from Pakistan. Both are beautiful, affordable and welcoming — but they're quite different. Here's an honest comparison to help you choose for 2026.
Cost
Both are excellent value once you're there. Flights are the deciding factor — fares from Pakistan to Bangkok are often cheaper and more frequent than to Bali (Denpasar), which usually involves a longer route. On the ground, daily costs are broadly similar.
Visa (for Pakistani passport holders)
- Thailand: generally easier — check the current e-Visa / visa-on-arrival rules before booking.
- Bali (Indonesia): you must arrange a tourist e-Visa online before you fly — there's no visa-on-arrival for Pakistani passports.
Always confirm the latest rules, as both change.
Vibe & what to do
- Bali is about nature, culture and slowing down — temples, rice terraces, waterfalls, Nusa Penida and beautiful villas. Great for honeymoons, couples and anyone wanting a calmer, more scenic trip.
- Thailand is about variety — buzzing Bangkok, island-hopping (Phuket, Krabi, Koh Samui), nightlife and street food. Great if you want energy and lots of moving around.
Halal food
Both are easy for Muslim travellers. Thailand has abundant halal food in Bangkok and the south; Bali has plenty in Kuta, Seminyak, Denpasar and Nusa Dua (see our halal food in Bali guide).
So which one?
- Choose Bali for nature, romance, photography and a relaxed, immersive week.
- Choose Thailand for variety, nightlife and island-hopping on a tighter flight budget.
Having travelled both, I lean Bali when you want one beautiful place to sink into rather than a fast-paced multi-city trip.
